HERAT, AFGHANISTAN – The Department of Hajj and Religious Affairs in Herat province has confirmed the successful completion of the Hajj pilgrimage airlift for the country’s western zone, marked by the departure of the final flight to Saudi Arabia.

According to local officials, the final flight carried 230 pilgrims from Herat directly to the holy city of Mecca. This flight concluded a major logistical operation managed by domestic carriers, ensuring the transit of thousands of believers from the region.

Figures released by the Herat Department of Hajj and Religious Affairs reveal that a total of 4,700 pilgrims from five western provinces—including Herat, Farah, Badghis, Ghor, and Nimroz—traveled to Saudi Arabia this year.

Of these pilgrims, 25% were women. The operation used 17 flights operated by Kam Air and Ariana Afghan Airlines to transport participants to Mecca and Medina in accordance with regulations.
