Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed condolences over the death of a woman in Tajikistan’s Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region following a shooting in the border area between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
In a statement issued on Sunday, August 16, the ministry said the woman was killed by a gunshot on the evening of August 13 in Dashtak village, in the Darvoz district of Tajikistan’s Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region.
The ministry said the shot was fired from the border area between Afghanistan and Tajikistan and described those responsible as “malicious and opportunistic elements.”
The ministry also said it had recently received reports that some “malicious and opportunistic elements” were seeking to create disorder in parts of Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province.
According to the ministry, such actions could negatively affect regional security and stability, as well as the atmosphere of trust between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
Afghanistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the country remains committed to maintaining security and stability, promoting good-neighborly relations, and respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other countries. It added that Afghan territory would not be allowed to be used to create disorder or undermine security.
The ministry expressed its condolences to the woman’s family and the people of Tajikistan.
