KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghanistan signed 74 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) worth more than $200 million with domestic and foreign companies and investors during the International Agriculture and Livestock Exhibition in Kabul, according to Khan Mohammad Forotan, head of the Afghanistan Chamber of Agriculture and Livestock.
Forotan said the agreements were aimed at expanding agricultural trade, attracting investment and creating new markets for Afghan products. The exhibition featured more than 100 booths showcasing agricultural, livestock and industrial products from Afghanistan and other countries.
The 74 agreements involved companies from several countries, including Iran and Uzbekistan, and covered areas such as agricultural trade, exports and imports, joint investment, cross-border farming, technology transfer and livestock-related industries.
Among the agreements were MoUs worth approximately $3 million between Herat-based agricultural and livestock companies and Iranian firms, focusing on trade expansion, joint investment, cross-border farming, technology, and the exchange of expertise.
Other agreements were signed following business-to-business (B2B) meetings between Afghan fruit companies and Iranian and Uzbek businesses, including agreements related to the purchase and export of citrus fruits.
Afghan officials said the exhibition was intended to help domestic producers find new markets and increase sales. Deputy Agriculture Minister Sadr Azam Osmani said Afghanistan was moving toward self-sufficiency in poultry meat and several other products, but stressed that higher domestic production must be accompanied by stronger markets.
The exhibition also brought regional agricultural officials and businesses together, with Iran’s Minister of Agriculture among the foreign officials visiting the event in Kabul.
The International Agriculture and Livestock Exhibition was held in Kabul from August 11 to 16, providing a platform for Afghan and foreign companies to explore trade, investment and agricultural cooperation.
