The newly installed artificial turf at the Herat Football Stadium was officially inaugurated on Thursday in the presence of senior Afghan sports officials, marking the completion of a major football infrastructure project carried out with the support of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Ahmadullah Wasiq, Director General of Physical Education and Sports of Afghanistan, Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) President Mohammad Yousuf Kargar, along with several central and local government officials.
The event featured a friendly football match between Toofan Harirod FC and the Herat Select Team. Toofan Harirod secured a 3–2 victory in the match, which symbolically marked the stadium’s reopening for competitive football.
During the ceremony, a signed Toofan Harirod jersey bearing the signatures of senior Afghan sports officials and players was presented to an advisor of the Khwafi International Holding Group in recognition of the company’s continued support for Afghan sports, particularly Toofan Harirod Football Club.
The artificial turf replacement project at the Herat Football Stadium began earlier this year under a joint initiative of the Afghanistan Football Federation and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). The previous playing surface was removed and replaced by a new FIFA-standard artificial pitch installed by Turkish engineers.
At the time, AFF President Mohammad Yousuf Kargar announced that similar renovation projects were planned for football pitches in Herat and Ghazni provinces. At the same time, new stadiums would be constructed in Logar, Kandahar, and Balkh.
With the completion of the project, the Herat Football Stadium is now ready to host local and national football competitions under improved playing conditions, providing a modern facility for athletes and football fans in western Afghanistan.
