Farah Governor Mohammad Hafiz Mujahid and Land Transport head Seyed Ahmad Sajid met Iranian officials at the border to address bilateral transport and facilitate trade.
During the high-level border meeting, both sides engaged in comprehensive discussions to expand economic cooperation, streamline vehicle traffic, and remove existing bureaucratic and logistical barriers for traders and cargo trucks. The delegations emphasized that strengthening trade interactions is vital for boosting regional economic ties.
Strategic Importance of the Crossing
The meeting took place at the Abu Nasr Farahi border crossing (also historically known as Mil 78), which connects Afghanistan’s Farah province to the Mahirud border area in Iran’s South Khorasan province.
This crossing serves as one of the most critical economic and trade corridors between Afghanistan and Iran. Daily, dozens of transit trucks move through this gateway, transporting essential commodities, fuel, and construction materials between the two countries, making it a lifeline for local markets and trans-regional trade.
Infrastructure and Future Cooperation
Afghan officials urged their Iranian counterparts to establish additional facilities for Afghan drivers and to streamline customs operations to prevent prolonged delays at the border. Both sides concluded the meeting by reaffirming their commitment to maintaining close, continuous coordination to permanently ease transit issues and enhance the capacity of this vital commercial hub.
