The first Herat Urology Congress was held in the western Afghan city of Herat, bringing together urology specialists from Iran, Pakistan and Kabul to discuss the latest advances in urological care and surgical practice.
Speaking to Khate Nakhost, Zamari Noori, President of the Herat Urology Association and the rotating President of Afghanistan’s Surgeons Association, said the congress was organized to introduce the latest innovations in urology, promote scientific exchange, and provide advanced professional training led by experienced specialists.
Noori said the prevalence of urological diseases—particularly kidney stone disease—has increased in recent years. However, he noted that significant progress has also been made in diagnosis and treatment, with modern, minimally invasive surgical techniques now performed using advanced medical technologies.
Female urologists participating in the congress said that women account for a considerable proportion of patients with urological disorders. They attributed the growing number of female patients to limited awareness of urological conditions, delayed medical consultation, and challenging living conditions that often prevent early diagnosis and treatment.
Health experts attending the event encouraged the public to stay adequately hydrated and avoid excessive consumption of energy drinks, emphasizing that these preventive measures can help reduce the risk of kidney and urinary tract diseases.
