KABUL — Herat Governor Noor Ahmad Islamjar met with Serik Zhumangarin, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, in Kabul to discuss expanding economic cooperation, trade relations, and investment opportunities between Afghanistan and Kazakhstan.
The meeting brought together senior government officials, representatives of the private sector, and business leaders from Herat Province. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral economic ties, promoting investment, and enhancing commercial exchanges between the two countries.
Among the key topics raised were investment opportunities in the Torghundi–Herat railway project, the expansion of joint Afghan-Kazakh investments, and measures to increase trade volume between Afghanistan and Kazakhstan.
Islamjar and Mohammad Younus Qazizada, Chairman of the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment, also expressed support for organizing a joint Afghanistan-Kazakhstan trade exhibition in the cities of Herat and Aktau. They further highlighted prospects for cooperation in the mining sector, the export of Afghan minerals and precious stones to Kazakhstan, the establishment of a joint commission to address challenges facing the private sectors of both countries, and the further development of railway connectivity between Afghanistan and Kazakhstan.
For his part, Zhumangarin reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s readiness to invest in Afghanistan’s railway sector and expand trade relations with the country. He also extended an official invitation to the Governor of Herat and representatives of the province’s private sector to visit Kazakhstan for further discussions on economic cooperation.
The meeting was held a day after the Joint Exhibition of Afghan and Kazakh Products in Kabul, an event aimed at strengthening economic and commercial relations between the two countries.
