Armed Attack in Herat’s Injil District Leaves Multiple Casualties

A shooting incident in the Injil district of Herat province has left several civilians dead and injured, according to local sources and official statements.
Local sources initially reported that unidentified armed individuals opened fire on several families in the “Deh Mehr” area of Injil district on Friday afternoon (21 Hamal), resulting in casualties. The wounded were reportedly transferred to Herat Regional Hospital.

Later, the Ministry of Interior Affairs of Afghanistan confirmed the incident, stating that 7 people were killed and 13 others were injured. Abdul Matin Qani, spokesperson for the ministry, said the attack took place when armed motorcycle-riding individuals opened fire on civilians in the village of “Qabrezon” in Injil district. He added that the incident occurred near a recreational area and that some of the injured are in critical condition.
Meanwhile, reports from Herat Regional Hospital indicate that dozens of residents have gathered to donate blood for the victims of the attack.

Separately, the Herat Directorate of Information and Culture, quoting Ahmadullah Muttaqi, stated that the incident occurred in the Deh Mehr village near the shrine of “Sayed Mohammad Agha,” and that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the case. According to him, investigations are ongoing to identify and detain other perpetrators, while local officials have also visited the hospital to assess the situation.
Authorities say that investigations are ongoing and further details will be shared after they are completed.
