HERAT, Afghanistan – A total of 438,000 metric tons of goods were imported into Afghanistan through the Herat-Khaf railway line during the first four months of Afghanistan’s 1405 Solar Hijri year (March 21–July 22, 2026), officials at Herat’s Rozanak Railway Station said.
Ghulam Wali Mohammadi, head of Rozanak Railway Station, told Khate-Nakhost that most of the imported goods included steel products, ceramic tiles, and petroleum products.
The goods were transported through the Herat-Khaf railway corridor, a strategic rail link connecting Afghanistan with Iran. The railway, which became operational in recent years, has emerged as an important transit route for Afghanistan’s trade, enabling the movement of goods from Iran and other countries, including Turkey, into Afghanistan.
Mohammadi said the expansion of railway operations has also created around 300 direct employment opportunities at Rozanak Railway Station.
The latest figures highlight the growing role of the Herat-Khaf railway in Afghanistan’s regional trade and logistics network. According to railway officials, 642,000 metric tons of cargo were transported through the route during the previous Solar Hijri year, reflecting the increasing use of rail transport for Afghanistan’s imports.
