HERAT, Afghanistan — More than 10,000 square meters of handwoven carpets worth $103,000 have been exported from Afghanistan’s western Herat province to Germany between January and July 2026, according to officials at the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment.

Mohammad Yousuf Amin, Executive Director of the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said Afghan carpets—particularly those produced in Herat—have earned a strong reputation in international markets for their high quality, authentic designs, and traditional craftsmanship.

He said the Chamber is working to strengthen ties with international buyers and streamline export procedures to help expand overseas sales of Afghan carpets.

Meanwhile, carpet producers in Herat have called on the Afghan government and relevant institutions to facilitate their participation in major international trade exhibitions and improve access to new export markets.
