HERAT, Afghanistan — Herat Governor Noor Ahmad Islam Jar and Gholam Hossein Mozaffari, Governor of Iran’s Khorasan Razavi Province, held a telephone conversation to discuss expanding trade between Afghanistan and Iran and improving cross-border facilities.
According to a statement issued by the Herat provincial governor’s office, the two officials focused on strengthening bilateral trade and transit while enhancing facilities at the Islam Qala–Dogharoon border crossing, one of the main commercial gateways between the two countries.
The discussions also covered measures to facilitate the movement of commercial goods, address transit-related challenges along key trade routes, and improve coordination between the relevant authorities on both sides of the border.
In recent months, the Afghan government announced that drivers of international transit trucks would be allowed to enter Afghanistan’s customs terminals, unload commercial cargo, and return without requiring visas or passports. During the conversation, Governor Islam Jar called for Iran to introduce a similar arrangement for Afghan transit truck drivers crossing into Iranian territory.
The statement added that Mozaffari reaffirmed Khorasan Razavi’s readiness to cooperate with Afghan authorities to strengthen transit ties and improve trade through the Dogharoon–Islam Qala border crossing.
