Kürşat Özdemir has officially started his duties as the new head of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) office in Herat, Afghanistan.
A ceremony was held in Herat to introduce Özdemir as the new head of TİKA’s Herat office, attended by government officials, the Consul General of Türkiye in Herat, cultural figures, writers, and prominent representatives from western Afghanistan.
Özdemir has previous experience in humanitarian, media, and development-related activities in Türkiye. Before his appointment in Herat, he served as TİKA’s representative in Kenya and Azerbaijan, where he was involved in the agency’s cooperation and assistance programs.
During the ceremony, appreciation was also expressed for the work of Arafat Deniz, the former head of TİKA’s Herat office. Herat Governor Noor Ahmad Islam Jar presented Deniz with a certificate of appreciation, describing his activities in western Afghanistan as valuable and impactful.
Arafat Deniz served as the head of TİKA’s Herat office for four years. During his tenure, dozens of reconstruction and support projects were implemented across five provinces in western Afghanistan, including education and healthcare.
TİKA operates three offices in Afghanistan, located in Kabul, Herat, and Mazar-e-Sharif, focusing on development cooperation, humanitarian assistance, and capacity-building projects in different sectors.
