HERAT, AFGHANISTAN – The Herat Municipality has officially launched the construction of a major 12-story commercial and residential complex in the Shahr-e Naw area, with an estimated total investment of 1.5 billion Afghanis (approximately $21 million USD).
According to Ahmad Rashad Safi, Director of Urban and Sectoral Services at Herat Municipality, the modern development will include two underground levels designated for standardized parking facilities aimed at reducing traffic congestion in the city center.
The large-scale project will be carried out in four phases over the next four years and will cover a total area of 8,833 square meters. Once completed, the complex is expected to feature commercial centers, residential apartments, recreational facilities, green spaces, and a public park.
The first phase of the project, valued at 150 million AFN (around $2.1 million USD), has been awarded to the “Kohan Karan” construction company. Wahid Mirzayi, the company’s director, stated that the initial phase is scheduled to be completed within the next eleven months.
Officials say the project reflects increasing momentum in urban development and infrastructure investment in Herat, one of Afghanistan’s key economic and commercial hubs.
