A Turkmen delegation met Herat Governor Noor Ahmad Islamjar to discuss trade and Torghundi port upgrades.
The Turkmen delegation was led by Gurdov Bashim, Head of the Construction and Technical Equipment Production Department of Joint-Stock Companies, alongside Zamanov Sevinalli, Chief Specialist of the same department under the Ministry of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan.
Key highlights of the bilateral discussions included:
- 24/7 Port Operations: Accelerating the transition of Torghundi port to a 24-hour operational schedule to facilitate faster trade flows.
- Railway Infrastructure: Constructing 1,250 meters of new railway tracks dedicated to loading and unloading commercial goods.
- Technical Support: Deploying two locomotives to Torghundi port to manage technical maneuvering and shunting operations.
During the meeting, Governor Noor Ahmad Islamjar emphasized the need to expedite the 24-hour operationalization of the port. He stated that trade and transit between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan must be further strengthened than in the past, assuring that the Herat local administration is fully prepared to cooperate in all sectors.
The Turkmen delegation highlighted their approval of specific agreements reached, expressing satisfaction with Herat’s cooperation and acknowledging advancements toward operationalizing the 24-hour port schedule, developing rail infrastructure, and supporting technical operations.
