Afghanistan’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce says that more than 6,500 manufacturing factories are currently operating across the country.
The announcement was made by Nooruddin Azizi, Afghanistan’s Minister of Industry and Commerce, during a ceremony marking the country’s National Export Day.
The event, held on July 27, was attended by senior officials of the Afghan government, as well as ambassadors and representatives from Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Türkiye, Iran, Tajikistan, Qatar, and the European Union in Kabul.
Azizi said the ministry has so far registered more than 6,500 manufacturing factories nationwide, adding that the registration of new factories is continuing.
During the ceremony, outstanding exporters were honored in a range of sectors, including coal, fresh and dried fruits, cotton, asafoetida (hing), precious and semi-precious stones, soft drinks, saffron, legumes, handicrafts, medicinal plants, industrial products, vegetables, livestock products, carpets, herbal medicines, and the mining sector.
Meanwhile, Herat remains one of Afghanistan’s leading industrial provinces, with approximately 1,350 industrial factories currently operating.
According to the Herat Chamber of Industries and Mines, around 150 factories located in the province’s industrial park export their products to dozens of countries.
