The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) representation in Afghanistan’s Nimruz province has officially announced that transit drivers from the Islamic Republic of Iran transporting commercial goods to the province are now exempt from visa and “road pass” requirements.
According to the official announcement, this facilitation applies to Iranian cargo trucks that cross the border and discharge their commercial shipments directly inside the Nimruz customs clearance zone. Under the new directive, these drivers can transport goods and return to Iran without undergoing visa procedures or paying road pass fees.
Officials stated that this decision remains valid “until further notice.” The MoFA representation has instructed all relevant departments, border officials, and security forces stationed at the border crossing to cooperate fully to accelerate trade and ensure strict implementation of the directive.
A similar initiative was previously implemented at the Islam Qala border crossing in Herat province. Authorities emphasized that the measure aims to “expand economic ties, reduce transport costs, and expedite commercial exchange between the two neighboring countries.” With the implementation of this plan in Nimruz, a significant increase in trade volume is expected at the Milak-Zaranj border.
