HERAT, AFGHANISTAN – Local food-exporting companies in Herat province participated in the first comprehensive two-day workshop focused on equipping them with essential knowledge on food export standards for European markets. The initiative was funded by the European Union (EU), supported technically by the World Food Programme (WFP), and organized in collaboration with the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI).
The opening ceremony was attended by key officials, including Alhaj Seyyed Jamaluddin Hashemi (Head of International Relations at ACCI), Qadir Assemi (Head of WFP in Herat), Ahmad Shah Pouya (ACCI Program Manager), Mohammad Yusuf Amin (Executive Director of Herat Chamber of Commerce), and local food exporters.
Alhaj Seyyed Jamaluddin Hashemi emphasized the importance of such programs in raising awareness among food production and export companies regarding European standards for food safety, packaging, and logistics. “These workshops are vital for boosting exports, particularly in the food sector,” Hashemi stated, calling for more similar educational initiatives in the future.
Experts believe these training programs will significantly improve the quality of Afghan food products, paving the way for broader, more effective market access across Europe and globally.
At the end of the workshop, participants received certificates from ACCI and WFP.
