The Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment says Afghan traders and investors in Herat have met with a Kazakh delegation led by Yerkin Tukumov, Kazakhstan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, to discuss expanding economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

According to the chamber, the Herat-Kazakhstan Trade Complex was also inaugurated during the meeting. Officials from the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment described the opening as an effective step toward strengthening economic and trade relations between Afghanistan and Kazakhstan and called for increased commercial exchanges between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Bakhtar News Agency reported that Tukumov, Kazakhstan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, said during a meeting with local officials and private-sector representatives that trade between Kazakhstan and Afghanistan reached $581 million in the first six months of the current year.

He said expanding transportation capacity and creating greater facilitation for trade could help increase commercial exchanges between the two countries.

A separate exhibition showcasing locally produced goods from Herat was also held on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Herat-Kazakhstan Trade Complex. The exhibition aimed to introduce Herat’s domestic products and production capacities to the visiting Kazakh delegation.
