HERAT, Afghanistan – The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) has commenced distributing over 4.2 million Afghanis (AFN) in emergency cash assistance to 400 families devastated by recent flash floods across Herat province.

According to local ARCS officials, the humanitarian aid targets vulnerable residents in six severely affected districts—Kohzor, Obe, Pashtun Zarghun, Kushk Robat Sangi, Gozara, and Kohsan—as well as several heavily impacted neighborhoods within Herat city. The recipient families are among those who lost their homes, livestock, and personal belongings to the torrents.

The relief operation is financially backed by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Under this initiative, each qualified household receives a direct cash grant of 10,500 AFN to help cover immediate survival needs and restore basic livelihoods.

In recent months, severe seasonal deluges have wreaked widespread havoc across Herat province, destroying critical infrastructure, washing away agricultural lands, and triggering an acute economic crisis for hundreds of displaced families struggling in the aftermath of the disaster.
