HERAT – The 1,051st birth anniversary of the renowned mystic and scholar, Khwaja Abdullah Ansari, was commemorated in Herat province during a ceremony attended by cultural figures, scholars, and local officials.

Speaking at the event, keynotes highlighted the scientific, mystical, and cultural status of Khwaja Abdullah Ansari, describing him as one of the most brilliant figures in Islamic history and culture.

Mir Mohammad Arham, the custodian of the Shrine of the “Pir of Herat” (The Sage of Herat), stated: “The personality of Khwaja Abdullah Ansari is not limited to Herat and Afghanistan; rather, his thoughts and literary works continue to inspire seekers of knowledge and culture across the entire Islamic world.”

Khwaja Abdullah Ansari was a prominent 11th-century (5th century AH) mystic and thinker. Through his mystical writings and timeless rhymed prose (Saj’), he played a pivotal role in shaping Persian mystical literature. His famous masterpiece, “Munajatnama” (The Book of Divine Supplications), remains one of the most valuable and influential texts in Sufi literature.

According to local cultural experts, Herat has historically nurtured great luminaries such as Maulana Abdul Rahman Jami, Imam Fakhr al-Din al-Razi, Waiz Kashifi, and Khwaja Abdullah Ansari. They emphasized that although Khwaja Abdullah Ansari is no longer physically present, his thoughts and profound words remain alive in the hearts of the people.
