HERAT, Afghanistan — Herat Governor Noor Ahmad Islamjar, accompanied by Faiz Ahmad Khawafi, Deputy Head of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) for Herat, and Mohammad Younus Qazizada, Head of the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment, met with Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev in Kabul to discuss expanding bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, the country’s Minister of Transport, and the Minister of Mining and Petroleum, along with representatives of Afghanistan’s private sector.
The discussions focused on strengthening economic ties between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. Key topics included increasing bilateral trade to $5 billion, granting preferential tariffs on 14 Afghan export products, and providing special discounts on railway freight charges for transporting goods from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan.
Mohammad Younus Qazizada, Head of the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment, said Herat offers significant opportunities for joint investment projects and affirmed the chamber’s readiness to facilitate cooperation between investors from both countries.
The participants also emphasized the importance of holding such meetings regularly to promote continued economic dialogue and further expand bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
