A carton manufacturing factory in Guzara district of Herat province, located in the Industrial Park area, caught fire on April 12.
According to the Herat Chamber of Industries and Mines, the damages caused by the incident have been estimated at between 10 and 15 million USD.
The fire lasted for nearly 24 hours, and a special firefighting team was flown in from Kabul to expedite the extinguishing operations.
Government officials stated that because the warehouse contained sheets and cartons, combined with strong winds, extinguishing the fire proved to be difficult.
In addition to the government firefighting team, a private company also deployed its vehicles to assist in extinguishing the fire.
Two civilians also attempted to contribute by throwing soil on the flames in an effort to control the fire.
Firefighters waited for the water supply to resume in order to continue their firefighting operations.
Sheets that had been removed from the warehouse were still burning outside.
