Herat’s industrial sector has taken a major step forward with the groundbreaking of a new aluminum can manufacturing factory on Thursday, December 25, 2025. This factory, a subsidiary of the Pamir Group, represents a $120 million investment and is expected to become operational within the next year. Equipped with modern machinery, it will produce aluminum cans for a wide range of food and beverage products. Approximately 1,000 jobs will be created, marking it as the first and largest factory of its kind in Afghanistan.
Abdulnasir Amin, President of the Herat Chamber of Industry and Commerce, highlighted that over 1,300 factories currently operate in Herat Industrial Park, of which 112 export products internationally. Amin added that while investors are increasingly eager to expand in Herat, additional land is required to accommodate industrial growth. Interest and investment in Herat have surged significantly in recent years.
Herat’s Governor, Noor Ahmad Islamjar, emphasized that the province has become the industrial and economic hub of Afghanistan, contributing $605 million of Afghanistan’s total $1.83 billion revenue last year—meaning nearly one-third of the nation’s revenue comes from Herat alone.
In recent years, Herat has seen substantial investment across its industrial sector, with millions of dollars flowing into various projects, especially within the industrial park. The province now stands out as a regional industrial hub, attracting frequent visits from foreign investors and delegations seeking insight into local manufacturing opportunities.
The establishment of this aluminum can factory not only boosts Herat’s production and employment capacity but also symbolizes Afghanistan’s growing industrialization and investment potential, reinforcing Herat’s role as a key economic and industrial center in the region.
